December 21, 2020National Issues Forum Agenda
We’re excited about our National Issues Forum this year, presented by the Upstate SC Alliance. Even though we’re not in DC, we have a fantastic lineup of speakers for you to learn more and engage with national leaders:
We’ll kick things off on Monday, September 14th at 8:15 am with the best list of speakers we’ve ever had.
First, Bruce Mehlman of Mehlman, Castangetti, Rosen, & Thomas will talk about The Great Acceleration – a presentation that dissects the social unrest and health impacts from 2020 that are accelerating political change in our system. Then, we’ll transition to a rock-star lineup of senior advisors at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce who will brief us on all the major items we care about in Washington:
- Political Update: Ashlee Rich Stephenson, VP & National Political Director
- Trade Update: Kris Denzel, Senior Director, International Policy
- Legislative Update: Ron Eidshaug, VP, Congressional and Public Affairs
- Infrastructure: Federal and State Outlook: Ed Mortimer, VP, Transportation and Infrastructure Policy
On Tuesday, Sept 15, we’ll have our traditional “breakfast” with our Congressional delegation starting at 8:00 am. We have Congressmen Timmons, Norman, Duncan, and Rice confirmed, and we still have invites out to Congressmen Clyburn, Cunningham, and Wilson. Tuesday’s program will end at about 10:30 am.
On Wednesday, September 16th, we have two top-notch speakers you won’t want to miss. Erin Mosley, Global Vice President of Business Development for Lockheed Martin will join us at 8:30 am to discuss Lockheed’s plans for Greenville and how the Upstate now features in the global defense equation. Then, at 9:30, we’ll bring back our always-popular national media speaker: Salena Zito, CNN contributor, Washington Examiner reporter, NY Post columnist and author of “The Great Revolt: Inside the Populist Coalition Reshaping American Politics”. Salena will talk about how she called the 2016 election for Trump early by driving through swing states (she never flies) and what she’s seeing today in her reporting versus 2016. Now do you want to register?
Thursday, September 17th, we will hear from Senators Tim Scott and Lindsey Graham in the morning (Graham is scheduled to start at 9:30 am). To cap the event off, we’ll host a closing virtual happy hour from 4:30-6 pm (bring your wine) that we’re calling “Hail to the Chiefs” – a happy hour with Moutray McLaren, Allen Klump, and Jennifer DeCasper, the Chiefs of Staff for Congressman Timmons, Congressman Duncan, and Senator Scott. You can ask them the behind-the-scenes questions you want to know about how Congress works! You won’t want to pass this up.
David Beasley, Executive Director of the World Food Programme and former SC Governor will join us on Friday, September 18th. His speech will probably be in the morning, but we are still working with the United Nations on a time as I write this.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email me. Otherwise, register today and we’ll see you next week!
