It’s Friday, which means it’s time for the Friday 5, five articles for you to check out before heading into your weekend.

1. The White House plays let’s make a deal. This week President Trump met with Democratic congressional leaders to pass a Continuing Resolution to fund the government through December, provide recovery relief from Hurricane Harvey, and raise the debt ceiling. This comes as a surprise to many who thought Congress would be bogged down for several months over the budget and debt ceiling debates. The response from our South Carolina delegation has been mixed.
2.  Former Governor Nikki Haley gets a nod from Time Magazine. U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley is on the cover of Time Magazine’s recent issue featuring “Women Who Are Changing the World.” You can see her full interview here.
3. In the wake of President’s Trump’s DACA announcement this week, South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham is urging Congress to take a bipartisan approach in allowing DREAMers to remain in the U.S. “I am committed to fixing this problem once and for all,” Graham said in a joint news conference with Democratic Senator Dick Durbin from Illinois. “This is a defining moment … we are the party of a constitutional process. We believe in doing it right. But ‘right’ means taking care of these kids.”
4. The 2018 Gubernatorial race has one less competitor: State Senator Tom Davis told the Associated Press “the timing simply isn’t right for me to run a statewide campaign …” on Wednesday. “South Carolina government is dominated by the Legislature, and recent history has shown that reform-minded governors without legislative support can’t get much accomplished.”
5. Remember this 2016 sign-language rock-star? Jason Hurdich, who gained fame in October 2016 as the interpreter for the deaf during Hurricane Matthew, is back helping South Carolina prepare for Hurricane Irma.
